Summertime Fishing

When the temperatures are pushing 100 degrees and it is hard to be outside for an extended period of time, you might want to tough it up and head to the lake. That is exactly what Kevin Kloever and I did one evening on Kinkaid Lake. In the dead of summer the bass seem to be inactive until the sun starts to set but with the right lure you can still coax them into biting. We got on the water around 5pm and headed to our first spot. Our lure of choice was a Strike King 10inch Anaconda worm. These huge worms are deadly when it comes to summertime fishing. I immediately caught a nice three pound keeper in about fourteen foot of water. After that fish for the next several hours it was a struggle to catch a fish. We did manage to catch some smaller fish but the bass were not taking the worm reel good. Finally Kevin connected on a good keeper right before dark. The sun was now gone and the moon was high and bright in the sky. We hit several spots multiple times hoping to find the right school of fish. Around nine o’clock we hit the right spot. The first fish was over four pounds and the second fish was pushing six pounds. The bite was finally turning on but we both had to leave. Fishing in the heat can be brutal but one of the best baits to throw when the weather is almost unbearable is a ten inch worm. The bites can be few and far between but with plenty of patience and fishing multiple areas you can catch some really nice fish.
